Buddha Mountain
Buddha Mountain
Buddha Mountain was created in 1996 in celebration of the 50th anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s accession to the throne. The patriarch himself selected the location - a mountain of marble that had been mined during the Vietnam War that he didn’t want to go to waste. The 130-meter tall Buddha was laser etched into the cliff face and then inlaid with gold leaf in a process that took months. Sprawled out in front of the cliff face are beautifully landscaped gardens, complete with pavilions and lotus-flower-filled pools. As you make your way through the gardens, a number of signs (in English!) share the site’s history.

Sanctuary of Truth
The Sanctuary of Truth is a unique project founded by Thai businessman Lek Viriyaphant in 1981 as a symbol of harmony and means of preserving traditional construction techniques. The entire temple is built out of wood (there aren’t even metal nails), every inch of the 105 meter tall building is covered with hand-carved depictions of Hindu and Buddhist deities. The mythologies of Cambodia, China, India and Thailand are represented in each of the Sanctuary’s four wings, unifying the ideologies of Southeast Asia. The interior is only accessible on a guided tour, which runs every 30 minutes. For more information, please visit sanctuaryoftruth.com

Know more about your day trip

The Sanctuary of Truth is a stunning wooden temple entirely hand-carved from teak without using nails. Standing at 105 meters tall, this architectural marvel combines elements of Thai, Cambodian, Chinese, and Indian religious iconography. Your 3-hour visit allows time to appreciate the intricate wood carvings depicting philosophical and religious themes while watching craftsmen continue the ongoing construction.
Buddha Mountain (Khao Chi Chan) features a 130-meter-tall golden Buddha image laser-carved into the limestone cliff. Created in 1996 to commemorate King Bhumibol's golden jubilee, this impressive sight is surrounded by landscaped gardens with viewing areas. Your 50-minute visit gives you time to admire this monumental image, take photos, and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
Khao Sam Muk Viewpoint offers panoramic views of Bangsaen Beach and the Gulf of Thailand. This small hill is home to a Chinese shrine and a colony of monkeys believed to bring good luck. Your 20-minute stop here provides a refreshing break between major attractions and excellent photo opportunities of the coastline.
Morning visits (8-11 AM) are ideal for Buddha Mountain to avoid midday heat at this outdoor site. The Sanctuary of Truth is equally impressive throughout the day, though late afternoon light enhances the golden tones of the wood carvings. Khao Sam Muk offers beautiful sunset views if your schedule allows for a late afternoon visit.
The journey from Bangkok to Chon Buri takes approximately 1.5-2 hours each way, depending on traffic conditions. The Sanctuary of Truth is located in Pattaya, about 160 km from Bangkok. Your private driver will handle the journey via modern highways, allowing you to relax and prepare for your cultural exploration.
Modest attire is recommended, particularly for the Sanctuary of Truth. Shoulders and knees should be covered when visiting religious sites in Thailand. The Sanctuary of Truth may provide sarongs or scarves if needed. For Buddha Mountain and Khao Sam Muk, comfortable walking shoes are advisable as you'll be exploring outdoor areas.
Yes, entrance fees are not included in your Daytrip service. Budget approximately 500 THB per person for the Sanctuary of Truth, 50 THB for Buddha Mountain, and a small fee for Khao Sam Muk Viewpoint. Having Thai baht in smaller denominations is helpful. Your driver can advise on current fees and assist with ticket purchases.
