About your trip

In Passau, you can witness the remarkable confluence of three rivers: the Danube, Inn, and Ilz. This intersection creates a stunning natural spectacle at the city's northernmost point. While exploring Passau, don't miss St. Stephen's Cathedral, home to the world's largest cathedral organ with 17,974 pipes! It even hosts regular concerts. Then head to Salzburg for even more music at Mozart's birthplace. Its historic center dazzles visitors with the Salzburg Cathedral and Mirabell Palace with its geometrically arranged gardens. Salzburg offers not only musical heritage but also the imposing Hohensalzburg Fortress that looks dramatically over the city, providing breathtaking views of the Austrian Alps.

Passau
Settled since the 2nd century BC, Passau thrived thanks to its position at the confluence of 3 rivers. The city grew rich trading Bohemian salt, reaching its pinnacle as the largest bishopric in the Holy Roman Empire. Following a massive fire in the 17th century, much of the city was rebuilt in the Baroque style, and has remained essentially the same ever since. Today, the Old Town is a maze of narrow passages and alleys between beautiful buildings. Within one of the area's most striking houses you'll find the Museum of Modern Art, which hosts some unusual touring exhibitions. At the heart of the Old Town is St. Steven's Cathedral, which, along with incredibly ornate ornamentation, is home to the world's largest organ. Since the 13th century, the Veste Oberhaus fortress has watched over Passau, and now provides stupendous views of the city below, and a museum exhibiting everything from archaeological finds to medieval weaponry and Gothic painted panels in one of Europe's largest preserved castle complexes.

Salzburg is picture book Austria and no visitor should miss out on the view of the Old Town’s kaleidoscope of domes and spires, the imposing castle fortress and the stunning alpine scenery of the mountains that lie beyond. The Old Town is a place where time easily slips by as you wander and wander. Check out Mozart’s birthplace and soak up the grandeur of the churches and monumental squares that appear one after the other. The city also rewards those who are prepared to look slightly further afield. Meander the narrow side streets accompanied by the classical music that seems to waft from each window and stop by one of the city’s café’s to sample the mouthwatering cake and coffee. Let Salzburg work its charm on you to leave you with an unforgettable memory as you absorb its incredible skyline, the ever-present music and its thousand-year-old history.
