Sibiu to Cluj-Napoca and Salina Turda: Private day trip

Salt has been extracted in Turda since antiquity, with the Roman’s being the first to delve underground for the resource. For the next 2000 years, man dug ever deeper, reaching a depth of 120 meters before operations finally halting in 1932. During World War II, the mine was used as a bomb shelter, and afterwards, for several purposes, including a cheese warehouse. Today, the site is simultaneously a huge underground museum and attraction, and one of the most beautiful underground places in the world. Futuristic-looking lights illuminate the amusement park where guests can explore the underground lake on rowboats, ride a Ferris wheel, bowl, putt a round of mini-golf, or entertain themselves in a plethora of other ways. The mine’s other chambers, visitors can marvel at the natural beauty of salt stalagmites, or learn about mining history.
