Nestled at the base of Druchruach Mountain, Kylemore Abbey is a fairytale-like estate steeped in romance and resilience. Built in the 19th century, it later became a Benedictine monastery and a symbol of faith and endurance. Begin your visit with a tour of the Abbey’s opulent rooms, followed by a peaceful walk through the restored Victorian Walled Garden. Continue to the Gothic Church, set beside a reflective lake that mirrors the surrounding peaks. Conclude with tea and local treats at the café before heading onward, enriched by Kylemore’s history and serenity. The Abbey is open 7 days a week from 10 AM to 5PM, but closed Nov. 19, Dec. 24, 25, and 26. Check the website for opening hours.

Clifden is about 50 miles (79 km) from Galway, and the drive takes roughly 1 hour 15 minutes via the N59. The route passes through the heart of Connemara, offering some of the most scenic countryside in the west of Ireland.
Kylemore Abbey is about 12 miles (20 km) northeast of Clifden, a drive of around 20 to 25 minutes via the N59. The 19th-century estate sits on the shores of Pollacappul Lough beneath the Twelve Bens mountains. It includes a Victorian Walled Garden, a Gothic Church, and a cafe serving locally inspired food.
