Dubai to Dhayah Fort: Private day trip

The Dhayah Fort as it stands today was built in the 19th century atop the foundations of an even older fortification. The fort is a local point of pride as it was the last bastion of resistance against the British, who had sent an expedition to subdue the Al Qasimis - one of the six ruling families of the UAE. After 3 days of heavy bombardment, with no water, sanitation, or cover the 398 men, and 400 women and children finally surrendered. The truce that followed led to the formation of the modern UAE. Standing between the two towers, behind the low mud-brick wall, it’s hard not to marvel at the tenacity of the local farmers and families who held out here. Of course, even without the history, the panoramic views of rocky mountains, lush palm gardens, and the distant coast make the climb up to the fort worthwhile.
