Cape Point sits at the dramatic southwestern tip of Africa within Table Mountain National Park, where towering sea cliffs meet the Atlantic Ocean. Home to the iconic Cape Point Lighthouse (reached by funicular or hiking trail), this windswept nature reserve offers breathtaking coastal views, diverse Cape Floral Kingdom vegetation, and wildlife including baboons, ostriches, and numerous seabirds.

Know more about your day trip

Yes, Cape Point falls within Table Mountain National Park, and an entrance fee is charged at the gate. This fee is not included in your transfer price and should be budgeted separately. South African residents receive a discounted rate. The park is open daily from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM.
The Cape of Good Hope is about 43 miles (70 km) from central Cape Town. Google Maps puts the drive at roughly 1 hour via the M3 and the scenic Chapman's Peak or False Bay coastal routes. The journey itself is part of the experience, passing through some of the most beautiful coastal scenery in South Africa.
No. The baboons at Cape Point are wild, unhabituated animals that can be unpredictable, especially around food. Do not feed them, leave food visible in your car, or approach them for photos. They are capable of opening bags and car windows in search of food. Enjoy them from a safe distance and follow all posted guidelines in the park.
There are several well-maintained trails ranging from easy to moderate. The walk from the lower funicular station up to the old lighthouse is a popular 30-minute hike with incredible ocean views. The Platboom Beach trail and the walk to the Cape of Good Hope sign itself are also highly recommended. All trails are well-marked and accessible without specialist equipment.
Summer (November to February) brings warm, sunny weather and longer days, though winds can be strong. Spring (September to October) offers wildflower blooms across the peninsula and pleasant temperatures. Winter (June to August) is cooler and wetter but the landscape stays lush and crowds are much thinner. The Cape Peninsula is rewarding year-round, but clear days offer the best visibility from the clifftops.
They are close but distinct. Cape Point is the dramatic rocky headland within Table Mountain National Park, home to the famous lighthouse and the most popular viewpoint. The Cape of Good Hope is the most southwesterly point of the African continent, located a short walk from Cape Point. Most visitors explore both on the same visit as they are within the same reserve.
Wind is a near-constant companion at Cape Point even on sunny days, so bring a windproof layer regardless of the season. Comfortable walking shoes are essential if you plan to hike any of the trails. Sunscreen and a hat are recommended for clear days. Bring water and snacks, as the restaurant at the reserve can get busy during peak season.
The reserve is home to a remarkable variety of wildlife. Chacma baboons are commonly spotted along the road and near the parking areas — they are wild animals and should not be approached or fed. You may also see ostriches, bontebok, eland, and Cape mountain zebra. The coastal cliffs attract a range of seabirds, including African penguins and cormorants in certain areas.
