Cefalu to Enna: Private day trip

Settled since the 14th century BC, Enna’s position atop a large plateau surrounded by cliffs made it one of the most well-defended settlements of the ancient world, said to have only ever been taken through treachery. Visitors can still get a glimpse of the city’s martial past at the Castello di Lombardia, one of the most important examples of military architecture in Sicily, which now hosts cultural events in its inner courtyard. Enna’s Cathedral, a UNESCO Place of Peace, is an extravagant mix of architectural and artistic styles, filled with amazing woodwork, stupendous stuccoes, and even Classical ruins at the base of the pulpit. Visitors can also get a look at the cathedral’s many sacred treasures, including vestments and jewelry, at the Alessi Museum. Nearby, there’s also an archaeological museum showcasing a wide range of regional artifacts. (please note: as of January 2025, the castle is closed for renovations but is still viewable from the outside)
