Take a train from Rome to Salerno or Sorrento, and then catch a bus or taxi to Praiano for a cost-effective option. The train from Rome to Salerno is served by Trenitalia's high-speed trains (Frecciarossa or Frecciargento) and takes about two to three hours. From Salerno, take the SITA Sud bus directly to Praiano, or a train to Sorrento and then a SITA Sud bus to Praiano. Although it is an economical option, making so many transfers is not the easiest with luggage.

Rome to Praiano by car-rental

Rent a car for complete flexibility to go at your own pace and for a scenic drive. Take the A1 autostrada to Naples, then follow the A3 towards Salerno, exiting for the Amalfi Coast. While driving a rental gives you complete control, there are some major drawbacks. First, the Amalfi Coast has limited which days rental cars can enter, based on the license plate number. Then, on the day you are allowed to drive, the narrow and winding roads on the Amalfi Coast can be challenging, even for experienced drivers. Additionally, parking in Praiano is limited and often expensive.

It's better to plan your visit around the shoulder months - from March to June or September to October. Keep in mind that it takes four to five hours to complete the trek, and it is at a height of 2065 ft (630 m).

Take a dip in the Fiordo di Furore

Right next to Praiano lies this stunning fjord (well, technically a ria) and one of the Amalfi Coast's most iconic beaches. Imagine a beach tucked away at the bottom of a deep gorge, which stays cool from morning to evening and is covered by a soothing shade almost all day. Then add a small bridge arched above the bright blue waters. All this is part of a town called Furore, near Praiano, and is easily accessible. “Vi var mycket nöjda med kvaliteten på den service vi fick från Day Trip. Vi hade två resor med Day Trip: den 31 augusti från Aten till Lefkada och den 7 september från Lefkada tillbaka till Aten. Båda resorna inkluderade stopp vid natursköna platser i Grekland. Båda förarna var utmärkta och tillmötesgående. Vi vill dock särskilt uppmärksamma Panos Peppas, som var vår förare från Lefkada till Aten. Panos var otroligt trevlig och behaglig och levererade enastående kundservice, som inkluderade att han tog hand om allt vårt bagage, gav oss kallt vatten under hela resan, försåg oss med proteinbars, gav oss tryckt material om Korintkanalen (ett av de natursköna stoppen), tog reda på och gav oss terminal- och gateinformation för vårt flyg hem, samt gav oss ett recept på tzatziki.”

“Gonzalo från Daytrip var vår chaufför och han var helt fantastisk. Han gjorde allt för att hitta oss eftersom vår mobiltäckning var dålig. Han väntade tålmodigt i lobbyn tills vi kom, så att han kunde köra oss från Tulum Dreams Resort till vårt andra hotell i Cancún, en och en halv timme bort nära flygplatsen inför vår hemresa. Han var artig, respektfull och vänlig. Han såg till att vi hade det bekvämt under hela resan. Snabb och effektiv. “Marianna hämtade oss för att köra oss från Heraklion till Chania. Vädret var hemskt, och på grund av detta kom Marianna några minuter sent. Hon kontaktade mig för att meddela det. Marianna bor i Chania och gjorde resan väldigt intressant genom att berätta om lokala sevärdheter och saker att göra i Chania. Marianna är en säker förare och vi kände oss alla trygga med både hastigheten och hur bra hon körde i det kraftiga regnet. Hon är en underbar person och talar flytande engelska. Ett fantastiskt sätt att resa och se sevärdheter längs vägen

“Vi visste inte vad vi skulle förvänta oss av denna resa och bokade från Australien. Vi letade från början efter ett enkelt sätt att resa från Granada till Malaga. Vi bestämde oss för att inte missa möjligheten att se något extra på vägen. Miguel överträffade verkligen våra förväntningar. Hans engelska var utmärkt (tyvärr talar vi mycket lite spanska), och han var mycket vänlig och hjälpsam. Vi njöt verkligen av att höra om regionerna när vi passerade genom dem och även att diskutera några av de lokala sätten. Miguel tog oss till Antequera som planerat och såg till att vi enkelt kunde få våra biljetter till attraktionerna utan någon brådska. Vi blev upphämtade och avlämnade punktligt och njöt verkligen av vår resa. Förhoppningsvis kommer vi att återvända till Spanien och vi kan använda denna tjänst igen någon gång.”

Great experience!

“I booked Daytrip to drive us from Rome to Praiano (Amalfi coast) with a 2 hour stop at Pompeii. There were 6 of us with a lot of luggage. Alessandro was our driver and he was wonderful! He showed up right on time in Rome ( actually a little early but he just said he was ready whenever we were!), loaded all of our bags and we were off! He was very personable, spoke great English and was able to give us so much information about the things we were seeing along the way. We made one stop for snacks and coffee during our trip, as well as our 2 hours in Pompeii. It was great having someone drop us off at the entrance and he stayed with our bags at his van while we explored, then was ready to go when we were. He delivered us safely to our Airbnb in Praiano. I would highly recommend using Daytrip and will definitely use them again on our next European adventure. And if you're leaving from Rome, ask for Alessandro!”
