About Ljubljana

Only recently has Slovenia made its way onto tourist maps. When you travel from Venice to Ljubljana, you might not know much about Slovenia's largest city. Despite being the biggest in the land, it's still quite small, with under 290,000 locals residing here along the banks of the Ljubljanica River.

The city sits in the heart of Slovenia, a nation bordered by Austria in the north, the Adriatic Sea in the west, and Croatia to the south and east. Its geography was vital in shaping the culture and lives of locals today.

History of Ljubljana

Legend has it that the Greeks stole the golden fleece from King Aetes and traveled through the waterways of continental Europe. Once they reached Ljubljana, they disassembled their raft before carrying it to the nearby Adriatic Sea. However, a fire-breathing dragon stood in their way. And they were forced to slay it before continuing their journey.

Despite this legendary mention, there wasn't a permanent settlement here until 1144, and it wasn't until the 13th century that the rulers designated Ljubljana a city. The 19th century was the most prosperous period for Ljubljana, as the Habsburg Empire carefully decided to turn the city into a fairytale setting with Baroque and Neo-Renaissance architecture.

Far from its most successful timeframe, but arguably its most memorable, was the Yugoslavia era. Its small size compared with other cities meant it was underdeveloped and underfinanced. After the Nazi German occupation and the bloodshed of the civil wars, the city finally had the chance to thrive after the collapse of the communist state in 1992.

Modern Ljubljana

To the naked eye, the city appears to be an ancient Disney plot trapped in a time warp. Wide cobbled avenues wind the Old Town and flow parallel to the emerald-blue waters of its gushing river. The Ljubljana Castle dominates the city, giving the feeling that it's still in control today. And almost all of its rainbow-colored buildings date back centuries.

However, if you scratch beneath the surface, you'll discover that Ljubljana is one of the most sustainable cities worldwide. Travel early

The train from Venezia S. Lucia gives you more legroom than the bus. However, you must transfer at least once, usually at Trieste Airport. From here, it's just a scenic 2.5–3 hour ride to Ljubljana Train Station through the natural paradise of southern Slovenia.

Transferencia privada de Venecia a Liubliana

“Estamos viajando desde Filadelfia PA a Venecia, Eslovenia y Croacia. No se puede alquilar un coche en Italia y devolverlo en Croacia. Tuvimos que llegar a Eslovenia para alquilar el coche. Así que usamos mydaytrip.com para reservar un traslado privado. Es como un Uber, de alguna manera: una aplicación para reservar al conductor en línea. Muy fácil de usar, y puedes agregar excursiones a la vista: la aplicación recomienda lugares para agregar. No tuvimos tiempo, así que no agregamos ninguna, pero nuestro viaje fue excelente. “Reservé un viaje en coche privado de Venecia a Ljubljana. La comunicación previa fue excelente, nos enviaron la confirmación de los detalles del conductor (Mirko) y el tipo de coche, lo que facilitó encontrarnos con él en el día. Mirko fue un excelente conductor/anfitrión. Fue amable y dispuesto a charlar durante el camino, nos contó mucho sobre Eslovenia y, en general, hizo que el viaje fuera muy cómodo y fácil. ¡Un viaje suave!

“Investigé varias formas diferentes de llevar a 4 personas (2 de las cuales eran mayores) de Venecia a Liubliana, Eslovenia, y no pude encontrar una manera sencilla... en tren necesitábamos cambiar de estación en la frontera; un autobús (con nuestro equipaje) parecía demasiado tedioso; y alquilar un coche para un viaje de ida a través de la frontera entre Italia y Eslovenia simplemente no era posible. Luego investigué Daytrip y parecía demasiado sencillo. La buena noticia es... ¡lo era! Por casi el mismo precio que nos hubiera costado tomar un tren, tuvimos una furgoneta privada que nos recogió en la estación muy concurrida de Venecia y nos llevó hasta la puerta de nuestro hotel en Liubliana. Fue brillante y lo haría de nuevo sin dudarlo. Nuestro conductor fue bastante callado, aunque respondió a nuestras preguntas cuando se las planteamos. Nos recibió a tiempo (de hecho, unos minutos antes), nos ayudó con todo el equipaje y nos ofreció agua antes del viaje. Obviamente, conocía bien la zona y nos hizo saber que Liubliana era su ciudad natal. Espero con ansias futuros viajes a Europa cuando pueda usar este servicio nuevamente. “Reservamos nuestro Daytrip y nos recogieron en Marco Polo en Venecia con Marko T. Nuestro vuelo se retrasó, pero Marko T. nos estaba esperando cuando salimos de la aduana. Un caballero muy amable que nos explicó algunos temas culturales mientras conducíamos hacia Trieste. Marko nos dejó y pasamos unas horas caminando por la ciudad. Después de que nos recogieron, nos dirigimos a nuestra última parada en Ljubljana. Marko nos dejó en nuestro hotel, un caballero total. Tres días después, de regreso a Venecia, nos recibió en nuestro hotel Jernej, un joven amable que nos llevó de regreso para encontrarnos con nuestro crucero en Venecia. Traslado de Venecia a Liubliana

“Después de pasar unos días en Venecia antes de comenzar nuestro tour, los cuatro necesitábamos llegar de Venecia a Liubliana, Eslovenia, donde comenzaba nuestro tour. Desafortunadamente, no había una forma fácil en avión, tren o autobús para hacer este viaje relativamente corto. Entonces, encontré DayTrip y decidí probarlos. “Reservar en Daytrip fue muy fácil. Nuestro viaje es del puerto marino de Venecia al aeropuerto de Ljubljana con una parada en Miramare. Nuestro conductor/guía Dragan J fue muy rápido en responder a nuestro mensaje de texto antes del viaje. Antes de conducir el coche, confirmó el itinerario y la hora en que necesitábamos llegar a Ljubljana y si teníamos algún vuelo que tomar (no teníamos) para poder darnos consejo. Es muy servicial y paciente al responder nuestras preguntas durante nuestro viaje. Nos dio información muy útil que pudimos utilizar durante nuestra estadía en Eslovenia. Se detuvo para algunas fotos, lo cual apreciamos. Nos llevó más allá de Trieste aunque no estaba en el itinerario. También nos enseñó algunas frases en esloveno. Gracias de nuevo.
