The Ljubljana Dragon is depicted around the city on its coat of arms, flag, and many local emblems. The dragon is associated with the legend of Jason and the Argonauts, who supposedly slew a dragon in the marshes where Ljubljana now stands. Tickets should be bought in advance for these buses, as it is a popular route in the summer.

Budapest to Ljubljana by train

Hungarian Railways (MAV) has direct trains once per day from Budapest-Kelenfold to Ljubljana’s main train station. They leave at 9:07 AM, and you can be in Ljubljana by 5:00 PM. The trip takes about 7.5 hours, and tickets are between $26 and $35 (€24-€32). Due to the limited number of trains, we advise booking tickets in advance to avoid any disruption to your vacation plans.

If you are traveling in the summer, Interrail has night trains with sleeper cars so you can get a full night’s rest. These trains are not as cheap as the daytime options, but have the option of booking a sleeper cabin so you are fully rested for Ljubljana.

Things to do when you get to Ljubljana

After your trip from Budapest to Ljubljana, be sure to have dinner at one of Ljubljana’s many restaurants serving local cuisine. As you walk around the city after your meal, try to count the number of dragons you come across! From Preseren Square, you can head south and east along the Ljubljanica River or north and west into the old town.

Walk across the Triple Bridge

Designed by the famous Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik, the Triple Bridge is one of Ljubljana’s most recognizable landmarks and connects Prešeren Square to the old town. Its three converging paths connect the city over the Ljubljanica River.

Try to escape Ljubljana Castle

Across from Preseren Square, perched on a hill overlooking the city, Ljubljana Castle offers panoramic views, historical exhibits, and a museum. You can reach it by funicular, walking, or cycling. You can even do an escape room with friends!

“Esta fue nuestra primera experiencia utilizando un servicio de coche en Europa y fue una gran experiencia. Darko V. llegó a nuestro hotel en Budapest un poco antes y lo vimos, por lo que pudimos salir un poco antes de la hora programada. Darko nos proporcionó a cada uno una botella de agua, lo cual fue muy apreciado. La furgoneta era muy cómoda y limpia y nuestro viaje a Ljubljana fue agradable. Transferencia sin problemas de Ljubljana a Budapest

“Nuestro conductor Michal nos recibió en el vestíbulo de nuestro edificio antes de tiempo. Nos ayudó con el equipaje y tuvimos un agradable traslado de Ljubljana a Budapest. “Mi pareja y yo viajamos recientemente de Budapest a Ljubljana con Daytrip. Desde la recogida hasta la entrega, nuestro conductor Robert F nos brindó un excelente servicio. “Gergery llevó a nuestra familia de 6 personas desde Budapest a Liubliana en una furgoneta que era bastante cómoda (fue un viaje de 4 horas y media). Incluso tenía botellas de agua para cada uno de nosotros para el viaje. DayTrip fue muy fácil de trabajar y la comunicación fue excelente. Fantástico conductor personal saliendo de Budapest

“Esta fue nuestra primera vez utilizando un conductor personal y encontramos Daytrip buscando en línea. Necesitábamos llegar de Budapest a Liubliana, Eslovenia, y los trenes y/o autobuses eran complicados y requerían demasiado tiempo de viaje. Nuestro conductor, Lucas, fue excelente y hablaba inglés. Llegó puntualmente a nuestro hotel para recogernos y se presentó, y tuvimos un viaje encantador y seguro. Apreciamos que no tuviera la radio encendida y que fuera muy profesional pero accesible. Pudimos hacer preguntas sobre nuestro entorno y aprovechar cualquier conocimiento que tuviera sobre el área que estábamos visitando. Su coche era muy adecuado y estaba muy limpio. Gran opción de traslado

“Mi esposa organizó un traslado de Budapest a Ljubljana para nosotros junto con un amigo con el que estábamos viajando. Nos recogieron en nuestro alojamiento a tiempo, nuestro conductor Atilla tomó la maleta de mi esposa por ella. Atilla nos acomodó en el coche y nos puso en camino en poco tiempo, y organizó botellas de agua para el viaje. Fuimos a través de Maribor y Celje con una hora de parada en ambas ciudades para darnos un descanso, estirar las piernas y hacer un poco de turismo. Atilla fue fantástico y se unió a nuestro recorrido turístico, ya que era la primera vez que él también visitaba ambas ciudades. Nos dejó a tiempo en nuestro punto de destino sin ningún problema. Fue un viaje sin estrés de puerta a puerta y recomendaríamos encarecidamente utilizar Daytrip para traslados entre ciudades europeas. ¡Gracias a Atilla por un traslado tan agradable!”

“Reservamos un viaje con Daytrip para nuestro traslado de Ljubljana a Budapest. Toma aproximadamente cuatro horas, y antes del viaje, pensábamos que podría ser un poco largo y tedioso; ¡estábamos equivocados! Nuestro conductor Matic fue simplemente fabuloso, puntual, muy atento, vehículo limpio, conducción segura y tiene una manera muy agradable. Viaje de Ljubljana a Budapest

“Me alegro mucho de haber oído hablar de esta compañía. Tomar el tren o el autobús habría sido un viaje de todo el día en lugar de las 4-5 horas en coche con Daytrip. El viaje de Ljubljana a Budapest con la conductora Judit fue excelente. Fue una gran conductora, llegó temprano para la recogida y nos dio mucha información excelente sobre Budapest. Dos grandes viajes con Daytrip

“Usamos Daytrip dos veces durante nuestro viaje de mayo/junio a Europa del Este y ambas experiencias fueron excepcionales. Nuestros conductores, Željko y Dusan, fueron muy profesionales, puntuales y conocedores. Recibimos un servicio puerta a puerta con Dusan de Budapest a Liubliana. No solo fue un viaje relajante, sino que un tren habría tomado el doble de tiempo. Zeijko nos llevó de Liubliana a Zagreb, donde íbamos a recoger un coche de alquiler para la siguiente etapa de nuestro viaje.
