Kafar Kanna
Itâs said this ancient city was the site of Jesusâ first miracle - when he turned water into wine.
About
Though predominantly Muslim today, the ancient town of Kafar Kanna played an important part in both Jewish and Christian history. It is (likely) here that Jesus performed his first miracle: turning water into wine at a wedding feast after the bridegroomâs supply ran out. There are two 19th century churches in town that claim ties to the miracle. The Catholic âWedding Churchâ is the traditionally accepted site of the miracle, and preserves the ruins of a Byzantine basilica in its basement. The nearby Greek Orthodox church of St. George lays claim to two stone jars believed by Greek Orthodox followers to be the very vessels in which Jesus performed the miracle of the wine.
